Thermo-sealed seams

Waterproof tape is sealed at high temperature on seams to guarantee waterproofness. The seams are either partially (hood, shoulders…) or fully linked together.

Moisture repellence

Property of a fabric to resist water penetration.

Windproofness

Ability of a garment to prevent wind from going through and 2-layer jacket. Outside fabric combined with a lamination to provide the product with optimal waterproofness and breathability. These jackets have an independent lining to protect the lamination.

Coating

Procedure whereby a specific substance is deposited in the inside of the fabric in order to confer specific characteristics (waterproofness, breathability…)

Waterproofness

Ability of a fabric to prevent moisture from going through it. The unit of measurement of waterproofness is the Schmerber, expressed in mm.

Lamination

Synthetic film laminated to the inside face of the fabric to increase performance.

Microporous lamination

Size of micropores that let the moisture exit and prevent moisture (rain, snow) from going through

Non-microporous lamination

As body temperature rises, the lamination’s molecules move more actively, expanding the inter-molecular gaps to accelerate the fabric’s moisture permeability.

Pad

Lightweight fiber to stuff a garment and which provides heat and moisture transfers.

Breathability

Ability of a fabric to let water vapor pass through. The unit of measurement of breathability is gr/sqm/24H.

Two-layer jacket

Outside fabric combined with a lamination to provide the product with optimal waterproofness and breathability. These jackets have an independent liner to protect the lamination.

Two and ½ layer jacket

These jackets are easily identifiable with an outside fabric combined with a lamination which is printed on its inner side. This “print” protects the lamination against abrasion or possible damage. This combination makes the jacket lighter and compactable. These jackets are usually worn on bare skin.

Three-layer jacket

A lamination is incorporated and pasted between an outside fabric and a mesh. In this case, the three layers work together making the jacket sturdy, waterproof and breathable.
