Take to the top in the ski prints of @chillinmaster
February 2019 – Les 3 Vallées
Ski session #2

After the snowy slopes of Baqueira, we meet @chillinmaster in the resort of Les 3 Vallées.

Fresh snow, winter sun and gastronomic terraces. @chillinmaster gets inspired by the handpicked spots and good addresses distilled in the “Ski Resort Guide – Les 3 Vallées” (published by Editions Fusalp) and embarks us on the discovery of this incredible domain.

Located in the La Tarentaise valley in Savoie, neighboring the national park of La Vanoise, Les 3 Vallées is the largest skiable domain worldwide with more than 600 kilometers of slopes. It consists of the domains of Courchevel, Méribel, Brides-les-Bains, Les Menuires, Saint Martin de Belleville, Val Thorens and Orelle. Visiting Les 3 Vallées is synonymous with an unforgettable experience on a land enriched by the history of the biggest ski champions!!

Les 3 Vallées are for winter sports fans a playground like no other. Whether a beginner or advanced, one can enjoy 600 kilometers of slopes that are, for the major part, located above 1,800 meters of altitude and that therefore make for maximal snowfall. Linked by their ridges at more than 2,000 meters altitude, the several domains have no less than 350 slopes designed to make sure that everyone, regardless of one’s ski level, can make the most of the amazing panorama.

Tuesday, February 12, 2019 – Méribel

The valley with the hundred slopes is the ideal starting point for a ski trip in Les 3 Vallées. Who would not want to have breakfast on the top of a mountain? Get onboard the La Saulire Express early in the morning for an Early Track experience. At the top, indulge in an energizing breakfast then take on the immaculate snow with a team of experts.

After this morning warm-up, discover the mythical tracks of Méribel. To name a few: the Georges Mauduit, a downhill track homologated by the Fédération Internationale de Ski with a vertical drop of more than 1,200 meters, La Face, the Olympic downhill track at the 1992 Olympics, La Combe du Mont-Vallon and its incredible height difference of 2900 to 1700 meters or La Bartavelle, ski slope of “bumps”, located on the Rock of Tougne.

At lunch time, take a gourmet break at Clos Bernard. Located in the heart of the forest, this heavenly place is an invitation to idleness. On the menu, Savoyard delicatessen cooked in the respect of tradition, with a special mention for the grill over a wood fire.

It’s time to come back down to the village and enjoy the intimate and warm atmosphere of the hotel Le Kaïla. Raw wood, slate, and flagstone mix with bespoke ornaments and XXL pieces of very contemporary art. The hotel counts 38 rooms, among which 24 suites that can be interconnected to create a privatized chalet. The hotel teams are here to cater to everyone’s needs. An elevator takes one to the ski room where one’s equipment has been prepared.
Back from the slopes, one can relax at the Nuxe spa and its pool, geysers, and Jacuzzi grotto. Starred chef Laurent Azoulay heads the one-Michelin star Ekrin, where seasonal audacious cuisine revisits traditions with fine ingredients and varied textures.

Wednesday, February 13, 2019 – Val Thorens

For @chillinmaster, the next stop within Les 3 Vallées is Val Thorens.

The highest resort in Europe at 2280 meters above sea level, surrounded by 600 km of piste, Val Thorens enjoys a 360 ° view of more than a thousand Alpine peaks. Here we reinvent the spirit of the mountain playing the alchemy between an ultra-generous natural environment and a relaxed atmosphere. Put on the skis and discover this vast area and its legendary tracks: La Marielle Goitschel, very sustained and steep black slope from the top (2900 meters) at the base, La Combe de Caron, Les Cascades – LA piste mogul Eric Berthon, former star of the discipline – Jean Béranger, very sustained track from the top of Funitel Péclet to the bottom. A few bends later, take a break Chez Pépé Nicolas.

Authenticity, generosity, and sharing: three words that could be written unvarnished on the pediment of this warm-hearted farm. Jean Sulpice, 2-star chef, does not stop praising: “Chez Pépé Nicolas represents the true values of the mountains and promotes gastronomy to the highest peaks”!

The taste buds satisfied, slalom towards the village and go to discover the après-ski, synonymous here with warmth and friendliness.

Thursday, February 14, 2019 – Courchevel

Head to Courchevel the exceptional!

Before leaving to discover the alpine ski area, @chillinmaster has made a stop at the hotel Les Airelles, one of the few snow palaces. In this Italian-Tyrolean-style hotel on the edge of a slope, the art of entertaining takes on its full dimension. Decorated with wood paneling, china, antique rugs, Rubelli fabric and precious silks, designer furniture such as Christophe Tollemer and a faience stove made by Florentine artists, this palace of snow is an exceptional place. Swimming pool, spa, private skating rink, cinema room, library, luxury shops, cozy bar and restaurants complete the avalanche of services at your disposal in this palace where children also have their kingdom.

Ready, steady, go! From La Saulire to the Marmottes trail, through Les Verdons and Les creux, whatever your level of skiing, you will find Courchevel tracks with your spatulas, for beautiful and long walks.

On the restaurant side, the area of the 3 Valleys is a real track to the stars with no less than ten tables awarded by the Michelin Guide for a total of seventeen stars. Courchevel plays the haute cuisine menu with seven starred tables! Chefs orchestrate the waltz of local products, local specialties and flavors that they sublimate and revisit with audacity.

The experience would not be complete without a shopping spree. Courchevel is one of the prettiest luxury showcases in France. Going down the Rue du Rocher to the church you will wander between the houses Bulgari, Dior, Fendi, Loro Piana, Valentino and Vuitton and stroll at Bottega Venetta, Boucheron, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Hermes, Prada … and Fusalp!
